Torrox Costa’s Bold Vision: Marina, Golf Course, and 4,600 Homes in the Next Decade

The mayor’s ambitious plan to transform the Calaceite area:

Mayor Óscar Medina has reaffirmed his commitment to transforming the Calaceite area of Torrox Costa into a premier destination within the next decade. The plan, first included in the town’s General Urban Development Plan (PGOU) in 1996, envisions a golf course, a marina with 872 berths, and nearly 4,600 beachfront homes. Despite regulatory changes and economic crises delaying progress, Medina now asserts that “this is the right time for the development of Calaceite.”

Speaking to over a hundred investors at the Meridiana Meetup-MIPIM forum in Malaga, Medina described Calaceite as “one of the most spectacular areas in southern Europe.” He emphasized the project’s commitment to sustainability, stating that it will position Torrox as “one of the richest municipalities in Spain in terms of per capita income.” The urban development will integrate the new homes with 2,300 already planned in the Puerto Narixa area. Medina highlighted public-private collaboration as key to balancing sustainability with economic growth, ensuring public housing accessibility.

The new Puerto Banús

The marina, described as a “new Puerto Banús,” is positioned as a flagship attraction, potentially boosting tourism and local revenue. However, comparisons with established luxury destinations bring the challenge of maintaining exclusivity while fostering community integration. With two kilometers of coastline, the area is poised to become a hub for water sports, benefiting from Torrox’s unique beachfront location and climate. Medina reiterated that “there is no better area in Malaga or Andalucía for water sports.”

Strategic Location and Community Appeal

Torrox, just 35 minutes from Malaga and an hour from Granada, enjoys an ideal position between coastal and mountainous attractions. The town is a leader in rural tourism and boasts the largest German community on mainland Spain, drawn by its Mediterranean lifestyle, beaches, and “the best climate in Europe.” According to Medina, these factors make Torrox an investment hotspot poised for exponential growth.

Infrastructure and Future Development

Beyond the marina and golf course, improvements in public infrastructure and services will accompany the expansion. Medina assured investors that the Andalusian government fully supports the project and is committed to expediting bureaucratic processes. “We are ready to mobilize public land to ensure housing access,” he stated, emphasizing the importance of efficient development to meet the rising demand. With the combination of luxury real estate, tourism, and economic incentives, Torrox Costa is set to become a model for sustainable urban expansion, balancing modern living with environmental responsibility. Investors and developers are encouraged to seize this opportunity as the transformation of Calaceite moves forward.
